It’s known, taxes, death, and Monday morning dreads are what we share. We can agree that Monday is never a day to celebrate, reminding us we have the rest of the week to suffer. Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend” is the anthem to working-class America. Fortunately, my Monday was greeted by the one and only Sonia. My bundle of joy came to visit from the San Francisco, reuniting in the City of Angels at our usual Happy Hour location, Palomino. Located in the heart of Westwood, it’s grounds for business moguls, high class escorts, and the typical UCLA student avoiding dive bars and frat feasts. In translation, it’s an upscale lounge meets bar with all the right people. When the sun sets, it’s every man for himself as Happy Hour caters to a diverse crowd. My fondest memories are here, enjoying dinner and cocktails all at an affordable student-friendly rate. Under recent renovation, their Happy Hour menu changed with lesser options but at least it’s all day, every day. Most importantly, they kept their signature drink choices and popular dishes. My favorites are the Gorgonzola Fries and the Grilled Mushroom Salad, both very generous in portions and group friendly. Sharing Calamari and Pepperoni Pizza, I devoured (in a classy way) a few glasses of my under $5 Cranberry Mojito. Be pleasant with the server and they tend to fill your glass with plenty of rum. So perhaps I did graduate college knowing more about the necessity of Happy Hour. I’d say money well spent.
